Colin Branham is a third generation artist. Both his grandfather and mother were successful artists. Because of his artist family lineage Colin spent much of his formative years in the studio and has been surrounded by art his entire life. Both Colin’s grandfather and mother’s artwork have played an influential role in his decision to pursue a career in art. He received his BA from UC Irvine and he began painting full time after graduating from college. Much of his inspiration comes from visiting foreign locations, experiencing the culture and landscape as well as seeing the local artwork in museums. Colin works primarily with acrylic pigments and polymers, using a number of different layers to create depth and texture. This leads to a finished product that has a rich surface and a high degree of detail. He will use a variety of tools including razor blades, power sanders and pallet knives to get the desired effect.
