These are textured paintings on prepared aluminum panels. The textures are achieved using a metal glaze made up of finely ground aluminum mixed with proprietary binders. James applied the texture and color in layers. As with the works on wood panel, he uses alternating additive and subtractive processes. The rich layered coloring comes from automotive paints. The aluminum panels are 1/8” thick attached to a concealed frame.
