Arizona Petrified Wood: This forest in Arizona is the second largest in the world, only behind the Madagascar deposit. It also holds second place in age at 200 Million years while the Madagascar one is about 220 Million. This Arizona Forest once sat much closer to the equator but shifted north to its present position as the land mass known as Lemuria broke up and parts shifted northward. The forest is now located near the town of Holbrook in Northern Arizona. It is a remarkable sight to see exposed logs of petrified wood blazing in the sunlight. This fossil wood is also called “Rainbow Wood” for its amazing colors. This specimen is unusual for its black edging and remarkable color covering the rainbow.
