Mama Covita wore her long black hair in two braids which were twisted together and pinned on the top of her head.

Mama Covita (a term of endearment referring to my grandmother, Juanita) seldom wore her hair down.

I have few memories of catching a glimpse of Mama Covita releasing her locks from the traditional Mexican hair-style worn by the Native Mexican women. Seeing her pull the last worn metal hairpin from her braids looked as if she released a gentle flow of waves that looked like a cascade of a slow moving waterfall.
