Baltic Amber: The Baltic region is home to the largest known deposit of amber, called Baltic amber or succinite. It dates from 44 million years ago (during the Eocene epoch). An estimated 100,000 tons of amber are thought to have been created in these forests. Kaliningrad Oblast (Kaliningrad Region) of Russia, produces more than 90% of the world’s amber toady.
